September 2015: New Unisys Security Products and Solutions Provide Advanced Protection Against Enterprise Threats

A key aspect of company's growth strategy, the services and solutions include a new software-based release of Unisys Stealth that delivers micro-segmentation for more effective protection

Unisys Corporation announced a range of advanced security products and solutions, including a new software-based release of its award-winning Unisys Stealth™ solution, which helps organizations protect their digital and physical assets in cloud, mobile and enterprise environments.

The new security products and solutions, a key part of the company's growth strategy, were unveiled at its annual Americas Analyst and Advisor Summit in Dallas.

Designed to protect vital information and infrastructure in the face of evolving threats from hackers and malware, the new solutions include products based on the latest version of Unisys Stealth software, which delivers identity-based micro-segmentation to protect sensitive data by making communication endpoints undetectable to unauthorized parties.

The new Unisys Stealth products are completely software-based and can be immediately incorporated into an organization's existing eco-system including clients, servers, clouds, industrial control systems, Internet of Things, mobile devices, customers, and even supply chain partners.

New Stealth products are part of a comprehensive portfolio of security solutions for location, perimeter and surveillance security; identity management and biometrics; secure image processing and analytics; as well as efficient managed services and global consulting to address all aspects of its clients' security requirements.

"With enterprises becoming increasingly interconnected environments and cyber threats becoming business threats, security professionals can no longer protect their enterprises with an outdated focus on building walls and counting events," said Tom Patterson, vice president and general manager for global security solutions, Unisys. "Instead, enterprises need to accept that bad guys will get in somehow, and they must layer in advanced defenses that minimize harm with identity-based micro-segmentation."

Addressing the Convergence of IT and Physical Security

The Unisys Stealth family of products uses an advanced approach that helps organizations mitigate attacks and hacker incidents by rendering devices, data and end users undetectable on networks. The solution establishes secure "segments" within an enterprise where only authorized users can access information. Unauthorized users cannot access the information -- or even see that it exists. Even if a bad actor gets in, Stealth sees to it that they are cryptographically contained to a single segment of the network, with no access to move laterally to other parts of the enterprise.

The new release of Unisys Stealth is based on a software design that eliminates operational costs associated with additional hardware and cuts deployment times by up to half. Leveraging global Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) standards, this latest version of Stealth code allows easier configuration and integration and provides a highly-enhanced interface for configuring, monitoring and managing the Stealth environment.

Key product updates and new releases include:

  • Stealth(Core): Secures data using micro-segmentation and cryptography to limit a user's – or potential attacker's – view of data and services to only a tiny segment of the enterprise.
  • Stealth(Mobile): Enables authenticated and secure access to application processing environments in the data center from mobile applications by using application wrapping software to encrypt data-in-motion from the mobile app across the Internet.
  • Stealth(Cloud): Extends the same level of protection to enterprises that wish to leverage the cost-savings benefits of using the public cloud but have been reluctant to do so due to security concerns.

April 2014: Edge Service Management by Unisys Gives IT Organizations a Competitive Edge in Delivering Personalized Services for Employees

New capabilities in Unisys cloud-based IT service management solution simplify management of IT infrastructure and make individualized services accessible to employees on-demand

Unisys Corporation today announced the addition of new features and services to its cloud-based IT service management (ITSM) solution, which the company has renamed Edge Service Management by Unisys.

Edge Service Management is a comprehensive, standards-based solution that enables IT organizations to focus on making employees more productive by better connecting IT services to related business processes. Delivered via an as-a-service model, the Unisys solution uses prebuilt modules, advanced analytics tools and proven methodologies that enable clients to achieve better business results by proactively managing both services and the underlying IT infrastructure, rather than simply reacting to service events.

Edge Service Management includes the following new capabilities:

  • A persona-based user interface for service request and catalog management that enables users to view and initiate services based on their individual organizational roles;
  • A discovery module that creates service maps and automates identification and updates to IT infrastructure components central to the services and business processes they impact;
  • A comprehensive Service Asset and Configuration Management service that enables management of both data center- and people-focused IT assets.
Unisys also announced a new, dedicated IT Asset Management (ITAM) Advisory Practice to help clients maximize the value of those services. Service professionals in the Unisys ITAM practice provide consulting, implementation and ongoing ITAM lifecycle management services.

“The name Edge Service Management perfectly captures the benefits of our ITSM solution,” said Ron Frankenfield, president, Unisys Global Managed Services. “Our offering gives Unisys clients a competitive edge across the board – in quickly modernizing their service management framework to achieve specific business objectives, empowering their people with on-demand access to exactly the services they need, streamlining IT operations through predictive analytics and getting the best possible return from their IT investments.”

Edge Service Management by Unisys is based on global Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) standards. Unisys can implement the solution for clients in as few as 45 days, compared to the six months or more that other ITSM deployments typically take. Available on an as-a-service basis through an annual subscription, the cloud-based Unisys solution currently processes more than 600,000 service events per month for clients.

Pre-Built Solution Components Speed Delivery of Results

Many components of Edge Service Management by Unisys are pre-built, dramatically shortening the time it takes to install and make them operational. For example, the persona-based user interface to the ITSM platform gives users a view into the catalog of services available to them based on their jobs.

Pre-built service request definitions quickly connect all data, tasks and people required to fulfill the request, saving clients approximately two weeks in development time per service request compared to the person/year and more that it typically takes to develop and deploy an offering from scratch.

The new discovery module gives IT organizations greater visibility into the structure of IT services and supporting IT infrastructure, enabling them to improve their change management process. For example, if the IT department learns that updating software on a server will impact quarter-end closing, they can plan the update for another time and avoid potential degradation in performance of mission-critical financial applications.

Through the new Service Asset and Configuration Management service, Unisys professionals from the ITAM Advisory Practice assist clients in developing a comprehensive IT asset management program, including an overall strategy, initial IT asset inventory and ongoing inventory of the relationships among all assets in the central configuration management database (CMDB).

This program enables the organization to understand the potential business impact of a service incident or a change so they can manage it more quickly and effectively. The service desk operation can use this integrated information to monitor and correlate events across all segments of the managed IT infrastructure and orchestrate pre-emptive and remedial action against potential faults.

Unisys has also added an integration engine to the Edge ITSM core, providing the capability to integrate additional technologies from best-in-class providers. The engine includes a library of pre-built software connectors for ease of integration, along with the capability to easily define rules and business logic for the service the tool delivers. Unisys will seek to recruit new technology providers through a new ITSM Technology Partner program.

December 2013: Breakthrough Forward! by Unisys Platform Now Available for Delivery to Clients

New solution uses fabric-based architecture to bring mission-critical security and performance to Intel-based workloads

Unisys Corporation today announced that its new Forward!™ by Unisys enterprise computing platform is available for delivery to clients.

Forward! by Unisys is a breakthrough fabric-based platform that brings unmatched levels of mission-critical security, availability, scalability and predictable computing performance to workloads running on Intel-based servers.

With its blend of mission-critical performance and open-systems flexibility, Forward! by Unisys is ideal for running secure cloud and big data workloads, boosting the performance of ERP applications such as SAP, addressing server sprawl by consolidating data center resources, and migrating from legacy systems that use the Unix operating environment.

In contrast to typical virtualization environments that share common resources, leading to unpredictable performance, the Forward! platform uses Unisys’ advanced secure partitioning (s-Par®) software technology to create a secure “container” of dedicated resources for each application workload. Combined with industry-standard Intel® Xeon® family processors, this approach provides the flexibility and cost benefits of virtualization with the predictable performance of proprietary Unix systems.

“The availability of Forward! by Unisys culminates years of innovative thinking and hard work by our teams to bring a new paradigm to the enterprise computing market,” said Dominick Cavuoto, president, Unisys Technology, Consulting and Integration Solutions. “For our clients, today’s announcement is just the start of a more secure, more flexible, more cost-efficient way of powering their mission-critical applications. We look forward to helping organizations realize the very real advantages of this breakthrough platform.”

Unisys estimates that, compared to competitive Unix systems, the Forward! platform can cut capital expenses up to 60 percent and reduce total cost of ownership up to 40 percent and compared to physical Linux or Windows environments, a partitioned Forward! platform can eliminate up to 70 percent of physical servers and reduce software licensing and hardware maintenance costs by as much as 70 percent.

To help organizations realize the value of the Forward! platform, Unisys is also offering extensive consulting services, including data center transformation planning, design and implementation, as well as services for Unix-to-Linux applications migration, ERP applications such as SAP and platform migration, and data center consolidation.

As an extra measure of mission-critical security, the Forward! fabric platform can be integrated with the Unisys Stealth™ cybersecurity solution, which renders applications, data and devices virtually invisible on the network.

May 2013: Unisys Unveils Comprehensive Suite of Desktop Virtualization Solutions

New Unisys Workspace as a Service solutions enable organizations to build and manage a cost-efficient desktop-virtualization infrastructure and stave off “BYO” chaos

Unisys announced Unisys Workspace as a Service solutions, a comprehensive range of advisory and cloud-based services for desktop virtualization – the transfer of certain functions from mobile as well as traditional fat-client devices to data center- and cloud-based resources.

The Unisys solutions enable enterprise clients to define and build a standardized, cost-efficient cloud-based desktop virtualization infrastructure based on leading virtualization architectures. The clients can manage that infrastructure with Unisys’ assistance or on their own to deliver consistent cloud, device and application performance that keeps workers productive no matter where they are.

According to recent Unisys-sponsored global research, 43 percent of information workers rely on three or more devices to get work done – many of which are self-purchased. In addition, nearly 40 percent use unsupported “bring your own” applications or cloud services. If uncontrolled and lacking a solid hosting infrastructure, a burgeoning BYO environment can lead to inadequate delivery of support services, potential security breaches and unnecessary cost.

“The end-to-end approach we take to desktop virtualization empowers clients to impose order on a potentially chaotic IT environment,” said Dan Huberty, chief technology officer, Unisys Global Managed Services. “Unisys Workspace as a Service solutions start with end-user requirements and are designed to work compatibly with other cloud and enterprise data center offerings. As a result, we can give organizations extraordinary flexibility in their choice of cloud infrastructure models, greater consistency in end-user experience for a wide range of workers, heightened information security, and reduced infrastructure management and end-user support costs.”

Unisys Workspace as a Service solutions comprise the following:

Advisory Services: Help identify how desktop virtualization can address specific end-user computing challenges and prioritize required actions.

Solution Design Services: Develop solution architectures to meet identified use-case requirements – including integration of existing resources.

Deployment and Migration Services: Implement solutions and provide an orderly way to transition users from their current environment to the managed Unisys Workspace as a Service solution.

Virtual Desktop End-User Management Services: Provide comprehensive support for a consistent end-user experience for all end-user personas.

Desktop Virtualization Infrastructure Management: Management of the underlying data center and cloud infrastructure for the Unisys Workspace as a Service solution.

Unisys can help clients define and implement desktop virtualization infrastructure based on EMC VSPEX, VCE™ Vblock™ Systems, Citrix XenDesktop®, VMware® Horizon™ Suite™ and other leading architectures. The infrastructure can be deployed as a private cloud in the client’s data center, managed by either Unisys or the client; as a hosted private cloud in a Unisys data center; or in a shared cloud environment.

On the end-user side, Unisys Workspace as a Service solutions enable client organizations to define distinct personas for specific groups of users based on their job profiles. The client can then determine what type of support each persona requires and which functions can be offloaded from their devices into the virtualized cloud environment.

Unisys Workspace as a Service also draws on Unisys’ full suite of IT support solutions, including predictive analytics tools that monitor application, device and network performance to proactively seek and preemptively remediate issues that affect end-user productivity. Unisys managed services can be delivered through Unisys 12 global data centers and 20 multi-language managed services centers – all holding ISO certifications for service management, service quality and information security.

November 2012: Unisys Mobility Solutions – Transforming the User Experience

The rapidly growing mobility trend is driving businesses and government agencies to rethink the way they serve a new generation of increasingly mobile customers and employees. Unfortunately, organizations are not fully equipped to leverage this trend. They are hindered by standardized IT environments built for cost efficiencies and lack the agility to respond quickly to changing business needs.

Unisys Mobility Solutions provide a comprehensive suite of services that addresses mobility needs of an organization from the perspective of business processes, infrastructure, applications, and end users. With these services, enterprise IT departments can find cost effective ways to manage, secure, and support mobile devices while maintaining the security of sensitive corporate data and resources.

By placing the user at the center of the transformation, Unisys ensures that their client achieves improved employee productivity, increased customer engagement, reduced operation cost, and better risk management. The Unisys Mobility Solutions include the following services:

Mobility Assessment Services assess how employees and customers can effectively use mobile devices to interact with the enterprise and how the organization should adapt its business processes to better serve its mobile workers and clients.

Mobility Application Services modernize and port legacy applications to mobile devices, as well as create new mission-critical mobile applications for more efficiently serving their customers and constituents.

Mobile Device Management (MDM) helps organizations deploy, manage, support, and secure employee smartphones and tablets – regardless of whether the devices are employee owned or company provided.

End-User Experience Monitoring (EUEM) equips the customer with a platform to effectively manage end-users' experience. The platform monitors three primary components -application performance, device performance and user productivity on end-users' devices (desktops, laptops, tablets and dmartphones)
